TEA

Tea drinking is an esoteric ritual conducive to the harmonious functioning of the bodily organs.   Eisai – Founder of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism

Tea sharpens the mind, soothes the stomach and nourishes your chi, your internal life force.   Chinese proverb

Tea was once a drink for emperors and wealthy people in society, now it is a beverage for people in all walks of life regardless of age or culture.  Tea is a worldwide drink consumed on a daily basis with the power to rejuvenate and energise mind, body and spirit.

All tea is derived from the Camellia Sinensis bush of which there are 3 varieties: Chinese, Asamica and Java.  All tea contains caffeine.  AS a general rule there is more caffeine in black tea than green tea and least caffeine in white tea.  The difference between the varieties of teas lies in the processing.  Black tea unlike green and white goes through a process called oxidation which causes chemical changes within the leaf.  This in no way detracts from it’s benefits.  All tea is beneficial.  All tea has 8 elements in common and they are;

  • plucking
  • sorting
  • cleaning
  • primary drying / whithering
  • manufacture to specific classes of tea
  • final firing / drying
  • sorting
  • packing
